Testing and inspection of lifting equipment

We pride ourselves on offering the very best lifting equipment testing and LOLER inspection service to businesses in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire. Our engineers are fully qualified for LOLER compliance and all work is recorded.

All lifting equipment must have an annual test under LOLER regulations. Anything ‘below the hook’ must be tested every six months. This ensures that you continue to operate within a safe environment.

What is LOLER?

LOLER stands for Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. These regulations place duties on people and companies who own, operate or have control over lifting equipment.

Under LOLER, all lifting operations involving lifting equipment must be properly planned, appropriately supervised and carried out in a safe manner.

LOLER also requires that all equipment used for lifting is fit for purpose, appropriate for the task and suitably marked. In many cases, equipment is also subject to statutory periodic thorough examination. This examination must take place in a number of situations including:

  • before first use
  • on reinstallation at another site
  • where it is exposed to conditions causing it to deteriorate.

Records of these thorough exams must be made and, where defects are identified, they should be reported.

For more information on LOLER, visit the Health and Safety Executive website.

Regular maintenance of lifting equipment to ensure it remains safe is also a requirement of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) so it is vital that this work is done by a professional.
